6 ROBERTPAUL.com 2025 - 2026 PRESENCE Biking on Cape Cod: Scenic Trails for Every Rider Whether you’re a lifelong local or a first-time visitor, exploring Cape Cod by bike is one of the best ways to experience its natural beauty, rich history, and small-town charm. With miles of scenic trails that range from flat and family-friendly to hilly and adventurous, there’s a route for everyone—from toddlers in tow to experienced cyclists. Cape Cod Rail Trail Spanning 25 miles from Yarmouth to Wellfleet, the Cape Cod Rail Trail is the Cape’s most popular bike path. Built along the former Old Colony Railroad line, the trail dates back to the mid-1800s when trains carried passengers and freight up and down the Cape. Today, it’s a smooth, paved route ideal for families, casual riders, and long-distance cyclists alike. Along the way, you’ll pass through charming towns like Orleans, Eastham, and Brewster, with plenty of spots to stop for a bite—Arnold’s Lobster & Clam Bar and the Hot Chocolate Sparrow are perennial favorites. With multiple access points, parking lots, and nearby bike rental shops, it’s an easy choice for a day of two-wheeled adventure. Shining Sea Bikeway This 10.7-mile trail runs from North Falmouth to Woods Hole, hugging the coast through marshes, cranberry bogs, and seaside villages. The name comes from the famous line in “America the Beautiful,” penned by Falmouth native Katharine Lee Bates. It’s a favorite among families thanks to its flat terrain and breathtaking views of Vineyard Sound. Take a break in Woods Hole for lunch at Pie in the Sky or watch the ferries coming and going to Martha’s Vineyard.
